Day 82, November 1. Now we are in Zhongdian, our first stop in the famous Yunnan province. This city likes to call itself Shangrila in order to rope in more tourists, but I don't know... It's not that great. I think I've just been spoiled by the beautiful Tibetan places I just came from. Apparently this is where tourists come if they can't make it up to the Tibetan areas of Sichuan province, as there is a Tibetan temple here. I took this photo while walking around town. Though I don't know the exact story behind why someone lit off a crapload of firecrackers here earlier today, I'm guessing it was to clear the air of evil spirits because they had just bought the place, or they are remodeling it, or ...?
