Come See Taiwan Video!
I’m back from my scooter trip around Taiwan. It was exhausting, which is why I’m not going to go into the adventures of scootering around Taiwan just yet.
I prepared a small two minute video of the 1000km+ ride that Mark recorded using my little Pentax Optio S4 camera. He did a good job of capturing the experience, and it’ll be a great memory of Taiwan (that’s me on the scooter in the front). The reason I put this together, is because one thing I found myself thinking about while riding was that I’m a little sad that no one from back home was able to see the sights I raved about to them over the past two years in Taiwan. Part of me hoped that a family member or friend would come visit, but I never pushed it on them, since taking the time off work would have been difficult for me, and I’d feel a little guilty about how much money it would cost them to come over here for a visit. So, I’m hoping that the clips can give an idea of what it’s like on a scooter tour in Taiwan, and why I enjoy the scoot’ so much.
The choppy clips show footage from the beautiful Southern Cross-Island highway, landslides from the typhoon, the clear sky of Taitung county, the wonderful goats of Lanyu (Orchid Island), the breezy East-Coast Highway, the tourists of Tailuge (Taroko Gorge), and the freezing-cold Central Cross-Island highway near HeHuanShan.
This is my first time putting together a recording, and it’s certainly nothing fancy, but one problem is that it wouldn’t play correctly in the windows media player until I updated it (it played fine in other wmv players). I’m open for suggestions. Also, it’s a large file (11MB). I could have saved it as something smaller, but it looked like junk, and I won’t settle for junk! So for those who want to take the time to view it, click on the photo to download- I hope you enjoy it!

Well, if no one else got to see it in person, you still gave them a helluva sample with your photos!

You made it out to Lanyu! Excellent. I think that was my biggest regret leaving two years ago, that I had to cancel my trip to Lanyu. How was it?

Very cool, Mark and Les. One of those sections with the tunnels, river and hills reminded me of the Fraser Canyon…

Cool video– you may be able to reduce its size by eliminating the sound. Conversely, if you don’t want to do that I suggest you add some music to the video. There’s a great song by Level 42 called `The Chinese Way’ that might be appropriate…
I was briefly considering going on that trip with you guys– it’s too bad I’m a slave to the corporate machine!

thanks for the tips, dairy queen. My next movie, that I both filmed and finished last night, has music. I’ll upload it soon.
It is too bad that you couldn’t come. Oh well, maybe the next country.
